Well there a lot of money to be earned online. Some of the prominent ones which involve a large population are:
1. Paid to click ads (PTC)
This a relatively new concept. As you know companies spend money on advertising to reach a large number of people. Till now the customers had to pay money as the product price includes the advertising cost.
Now you can get paid to view ads. In the there are intermediaries called PTC sites. Advertisers pay PTC sites to show their ads to large number of people. The PTC sites in turn solicit members to join & view ads & pay these members for viewing ads. This way the ads are read by many. The advertisers benefit as their sales increase due to larger exposure. The PTC sites earn their commissions & member get paid to view ads. A win-win situation for all. 3. Creating a website or blog
A webite or blog just like this can also be used to earn money. A website owner or blogger earns when the ads placed on their site is clicked. So more the traffic more the earning. To place ads on blogs, you have to apply for a google adsense account. Once approved the ads are automatically placed as per the site content. Also search optimisation tools are used to generate traffic to the site.
Building a site requires some knowlegde about domain registration & web designing. However its relatively simpler to create a blog. But to earn from both you need to know a lot about SEO (search engine optimisation).
4. Paid Survey
This concept is yet to pick up pace in India as product awareness less. People in Europe & US make good money by sharing their opinions through surveys sent on their email. To receive surveys on your email Id you need to register with good survey sites. I have registered with 1-2 but yet to receive any surveys. So better to avoid this now as many scams out there.
5. Stock market
There are broadly two kinds of players here. One is a trader & other investor.
An investor is one who buys fundamentally strong shares & keeps it for a long duration. The share prices may fluctuate but the investor will not do frequent buying or selling as per momentum. Most people are investor which means to say that they do not depend on stock market for their livelihood but rather just direct some of their savings in potentially good stocks so that their wealth grows over a period of time.
The other player is a trader. A trader is less concerned about fundamentals of a stock. He is more concerned about momentum & frequently enters & exits stocks based on relative momentum. So if a stock does not perform in a day or two, the trader would sell it & buy stocks that have good momentum in them.
Technical analysis in the form of candlesticks, charts are used to gauge short term targets, supports, stop losses & accordingly the trader makes entry or exit. Also trading requires a person to have access to latest stock news so that he doesnt miss the bus. Trading is much more risker than investing as it involves short term outlook & uses leveraging as a means to maximise return. So the potential losses or gain could be huge. It follows the principle of more risk for higher returns.
A trader could be part-time or full time trader. Part timers along with their job also trade to maximise earnings. Full timers depend heavily on stock markets for their livelihood.
